Dominating television and film, athletes have become cultural icons.

The language of sports has become very knowledgeable amongst adulthood and in politics. Recognizable phrases such as “be a good sport” or “the best defense is a good offense” are often used in a variety of ways that sometimes are not always related to sports. The use of sports in media has changed the way we have talked to one another.
Goals of unit 2:
- start exploring the topic of culture through close reading and choice note taking.
- make a claim and support it with evidence and reasoning by responding to a journal prompt.
- explore the language of culture through close reading, choice note taking, and discussion.
- compare and contrast how different authors use rhetorical situations to create claims through an online discussion board.
In the text “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” the author uses what rhetorical situations
Ethos and Pathos because she used was stories and she convinces people that you can’t get everyone from different cultures to talk and act the same.
How does community impact the individual?
Community and individuality have to be balanced. In the past, community meant that people were gathered together with different skillsets. Now it means the exact opposite- like minded people clump together.
