Unit One General Questions Flashcards
What are the borders of the quadrangular space and what goes through it?
Lateral: Humerus
Medial: Long head of tricep
Superior: Teres Minor
Inferior: Teres Major
Axillary Nerve
Posterior Circumflex Humeral Artery
What are the borders of the triangular space and what goes through it?
Long head of triceps, Teres minor and major
Circumflex scapular artery
What nerve innervates the trapezius and where is it found?
Accessory nerve.
Runs down the side of the neck and deep to trapezius
What innervates the latissimus dorsi muscle?
Thoracodorsal nerve.
Runs deep to scapula and deep to pectoralis major. It drops down from the axillary artery region.
What artery feeds the muscles of the suboccipital triangle?
The vertebral artery and the descending branch of the occipital artery.
What innervates the levator scapulae?
Anterior rami of C3-C4 and the dorsal scapular nerve.
What is innervated by the dorsal scapular nerve?
Levator scapulae
Rhomboid major and minor
At what level does the dural sac end?
S2-S3
What is the name of thin string of the spinal cord that extends off the tip of the conus medullaris?
Filum terminale internum and externum
What innervates the rhomboid muscles?
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
What innervates the levator scapulae?
anterior rami of C3-C4 and dorsal scapular nerve
What innervates the serratus posterior muscles?
anterior rami of upper and lower thoracic
What innervates the splenius capitis?
dorsal rami of middle cervical nerves
Accessory nerve
Runs down the side of the neck, found deep to trapezius, cranial nerve XI? innervates trapezius
Superficial cervical artery/vein
Runs deep to trapezius,
Thoracodorsal nerve
Runs vertically deep to the subscapularis muscle, innervates latissimus dorsi muscle
Thoracodorsal artery/vein
Runs vertically deep to the subscapularis muscle, feeds latissimus dorsi muscle
Long thoracic nerve
Runs superficial to the serratus anterior muscle and deep to the scapula
Lateral thoracic artery/vein
Runs across the serratus anterior muscles, feeds the serratus anterior, and subscapularis
Axillary Nerve
Comes through the quadrangle space, innervates the deltoid, teres minor,
Suprascapular Nerve
Runs through the suprascapular notch under the superior transverse scapular ligament then around and under the spine of scapula and deep to the infraspinatus muscle,
Suprascapular artery/vein
Runs over the suprascapular notch then around the spine of scapula and deep to the infraspinatus muscle,
Posterior Circumflex humeral artery/vein
Runs through the quadrangular space, feeds the deltoid
Greater Occipital Nerve
Posterior ramus of C2, runs over all muscles of suboccipital triangle and pierces semispinalis capitisand trapezius
Suboccipital Nerve
Posterior ramus of C1, runs through the suboccipital triangle
Vertebral Artery
Comes off the subclavian artery and runs through the transvers foramen of the cervical vertebrae, feeds all four muscles of the suboccipital triangle
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
Innervates the rhomboid muscles and the levator scapulae
Dorsal Scapular Artery
Feeds levator scapulae or rhomboids, runs under levator scapulae and along medial border of scapula

What do the vertebral arteries join to become?
They join and become the basilar artery which feeds the brain and runs up the anterior side of the brain stem.
