G1 Orientation to Anatomy Flashcards
What are the two main divisions for the skeletal system?
Axial and Appendicular
What are the parts of a long bone?
Diaphysis is the shaft Metaphysis is the widening at end Epiphysis is the wide end Epiphyseal growth plate Periosteum is connective tissue over bone Marrow cavity is inside of the bone
What are the components of a synovial joint?
Fibrous joint capsule Synovial membrane Synovial cavity Synovial fluid Articular cartilage
What is the name of the balloon-like sac around joints that is made of the synovial membrane?
Bursa
What joints are fibrous vs cartilaginous?
Fibrous: sutural ligament, periodontal ligament, interosseous ligament
Cartilaginous: growth plates, IV discs, Pubic symphysis
What keeps tendons from rubbing through bone in the hand and elsewhere?
Tendon sheaths which have a fibrous outer membrane and an inner synovial membrane
What are some main differences between arteries and veins?
Arteries are thicker and elastic, appear pale in cadaver
Veins are darker and have valves, appear purple
