To be a Christian in the first centuries of the Church’s existence meant a person
believed, belonged and behaved
What is a Trilemma:
a rational/logical approach to the question “Who is Jesus?” If Jesus did indeed say that he was the Son of God (see Matthew 27:43 and John 19:7) we are left with three possibilities:
What is the three points of the trilemma of Jesus
1 he is intentionally misleading people which would make him a liar.
2) he is unintentionally misleading people which would make him a lunatic.
3) he is telling the truth which would make him Lord.
The difference between a coincidence and a miracle is the
perspective of faith.
In order to provide meaningful service to others two things are needed
Awareness vs. Assumptions Information vs. Ignorance
And
Activity vs. Apathy (apathy is lack of interest, enthusiasm or concern)
Doing vs. Despair (despair results in feeling overwhelmed)
four circles of service,
1) Personal (friends & family)
Helping those closest to us is the most immediate and significant way of serving others.
2) Local (neighbourhood, town or city).
One person can still make a large impact through serving others in their community.
3) National (Country or Heritage Group - any group that identifies with a common denominator).
One person’s impact may not seem like much in the big picture, yet it is still important.
4) Global (the needs of others around the world).
Choice made locally can impact the lives of people around the world.
Universal Health Care was created because of the faith-based belief by _______ (a Baptist minister before he became a politician) and others that all people should have fair and equal access to medical help when ill or injured.

Two types of prayer
Intercessory - praying for the needs of others (communal or individual)
Petitionary - praying for personal needs
4 Components of Prayer - ACTS:
Adoration (praise, honoring the nature and saving acts of God)
Confession (of sin and asking for forgiveness)
Thanksgiving (showing gratitude for the blessings of life)
Supplication (asking for those things we need - supplies)
Jesus also begins the prayer with the word “____” indicating relationship with others.
our
Jesus’s 3 key points while praying
- Begin by addressing God, acknowledging relationship with God (a parallel would be calling your friend by name to indicate you wanted to talk with them).
- Make yourself aware of God’s nature and will, be attentive to what God has revealed (a parallel would be listening to a friend as they shared their hopes and dreams for the future).
- Conclude by asking for what you need - rather than simply what you want. Keep in mind God’s will and make your requests align with God’s will (a parallel would be asking a friend for help with a problem you are dealing with).
An ending to the prayer that is not in the original Gospel accounts was added by the early second century. This is called the ______ (which is Greck for ‘words of praise’).
Doxology
The final word ‘____’ is based on a Hebrew word that can be translated ‘___” and functions as an affirmation to the words of the prayer by the congregation.
Amen
