What does the third article talk about
The person and work of the holy spirit
What does the statement “I believe in the holy spirit” mean
- spirit is ruach (breath of life or wind - a powerful force of nature that can’t be seen)
- saying you believe in the Holy spirit is to say you believe in the power and presence of god all around and within you
What does the statement “the holy Catholic Church” mean
The word holy literally means set apart and catholic means universally or the whole
- by saying you believe in this you believe in the community of all Christian’s that is universal and connected through the holy spirit
What does “the communion of saints” mean
Anyone who believes in god is apart of a community of saints. This community transcends all time and morality and includes those who have passed and then ones to come (past present and future)
What does “the forgiveness of sins” mean
The Holy Spirit makes us aware of our sins (convinces and convicts us of them)
As well as forgiveness which is the attitude of acceptance.
In other words through the Holy Spirit making us aware of our sins and forgiving us we are able to maintain a relationship with god
What does“The resurrection of the body” mean
The body is not limited by PIES in its redirected or glorified body
Our identities and prescience are not bound by time in our glorified body and we can maintain relationship
What does “and life everlasting” mean
Life: ability to be in a relationship
Death: the ending of all relationships
Life everlasting does not refer to an endless continuation of time but rather it suggest an existence outside of time
In other words relationships don’t even after death and there is no limitations in a glorified body however it is out of the time system
What is the third apostles creed in order
- I believe in the Holy Spirit
- the holy Catholic Church
- The communion of saints
- The forgiveness of sins
- The resurrection of the body
- And life everlasting
