Sense of mastery
Defined as a sense of control over the forces that effect one self
Competence
Defined as suitable skills knowledge or experience to properly deal with stressors
Optimism
Is being resilience. Means instead of failing victim to negative environments, they recognize them and readily deal with them.
Successful Crisis Resolution
Consists of 3 factors:
- Perception: vary in ways that absorb information
- Situational Supports: Need to be positive in order to cope
- Coping Mechanism: Defined as thinking, behaviors or emotional behaviors used in the face of stressors.
Primary Cause of Psychological Crisis
Due to an intensely felt threat or stressful event.
Two Common Conditions for a Psychological Crisis to Occur:
- Perception: A way of regarding, understanding or interpreting something
- Resolution: Inability to solve disruption by previously used coping mechanisms.
How is a Psychological Crisis Categorized:
Crisis are acute in nature and time limited, last around 4-6 weeks.
Mental Illness
Is an illness that affects how once thinks, feels, behave or interact with others. Causes an impairment of:
Mood, Behavior and Cognition
Stressors
Defined as psychosocial or physical stimulus that are incompatible and need adaption.
Psychological Crisis
Defined as an acute state of psychological imbalance resulting in poor coping with evidence of distress and functional impairment.
Key Trait of Mental Health:
Resilience
Defined as the ability and capacity to support well-being.
