Confusion
Disorientation to time person or place
Delirium
Disorientation invoking fear or agitation
Lethargy
Being sleepy or difficult to rouse
Stupor
A deep sleep, respond to painful stimuli
Coma
Non responsive to all stimuli, may be posturing.
Epilepsy
Chronic, recurrent seizures due to abnormal discharge of nerve cells
Head Injury
Trauma to scalp, skull or brain
Concussion
Causes unconsciousness or amnesia
Spinal Tap
Also known as Lumbar puncture.
Obtains spinal fluid for examination or to reduce pressure on the brain in conditions such as hydrocephalus or meningitis.
Status Epilepticus
A prolonged seizure that does not respond to treatment for 30 mins or more.
Decerebrate (extensor) Posturing
All 4 limbs extended
Hands pronated
Brain stem injury
Decorticate (Flexor) Posturing
Arms, wrist, and finger flexed
Plantar flexion
Cortex injury
