Dementia
A brain disease which causes a progressive loss in cognition to the extent that affects everyday life
Disinhibition
Lack of restraint. Not able to stop oneself from doing inappropriate things
Verbal Fluency
The ability to speak recognizably and not having difficulty in finding words
Apraxia
Difficulty with coordinating muscle movement that is not associated with a lack of strength
Delusions
Believing in things that are untrue
Cortical Dementia
A subtype of dementia based in the cortex of the brain, which includes Alzheimers and Frontotemporal dementia. Commonly leads to cognitive and memory problems
Subcortical Dementia
A subtype of dementia “underneath” the cortex, in the deeper structures of the brain. Includes Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease. Usually doesn’t affect cognition and memory unless severe
Mild Cognitive impairment
a noticeable decline in cognitive abilities and does not interfere with everyday life/the ability to live independently. May be a precursor to dementia.
Amnestic MCI
MCI that mostly affects memory
Monamnestic MCI
MCI that causes impairments in thinking, decision making and judging
