Unit 8 Lesson 13: Altitudes in Right Triangles Flashcards
altitude
a line segment drawn from a vertex of a triangle perpendicular to the opposite side
corresponding parts
the sides and angles that are in the same relative position between two figures
Pythagorean Theorem
the theorem which states that the square of the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squared lengths of the other two sides
similar triangles
triangles that have corresponding sides in the same ratio (or proportion) and congruent corresponding angles
What is a corresponding side
Recall that a corresponding side in a triangle is a side in the same position in any two different triangles. For triangles to be similar, all angles must be congruent, and this congruence renders the corresponding sides proportionate.
