Unit 7: Understand project scope management Flashcards
7.1
Explain 2 breakdown structures used to define scope
PBS - product breakdown structure
The PBS can be used to identify the scope of what will be delivered. The main project output is placed at the top level and below that the required components are listed. The components get further broken down until a level is reached which identifies individual products.
WBS - work breakdown structure
The WBS defines a baseline scope of work and is used to capture the work activities required in order to deliver the project outputs. A WBS is normally produced after a PBS. For each product on the PBS, a resource will be allocated. A WBS allows for much easier allocation of resources, estimating and scheduling of the project work packages.
7.3 - Explain 3 activities in configuration management which are used to manage scope
7.4 - Explain each of the following stages in a typical change control process:
Evaluate, Recommend, Update Plan
Evaluate - a detailed evaluation is undertaken by the project team of the change request to make an impact assessment. How will the change affect the benefits, scope, schedule, costs, quality, resources, risks and stakeholders?
Recommend - The results of the evaluation are presented to the PS. The report will recommend approval, rejection or defer.
The PS will review the report and agree / disagree with the evaluation findings recommendation.
Update Plan - If the change is approved, the PMP’s are updated to reflect the change and the change control log updated.
