Unit 6: Linear Functions (Incomplete) Flashcards
1
Q
What is slope?
A
The slope of a line segment on a coordinate grid is the measure of its rate of change. Calculation that describes the steepness of a line.
Slope = rise / run
2
Q
What is the slope formula?
A
Slope = rise / run = y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
3
Q
What are parallel lines?
A
Lines that will never meet. They have the same slope.
4
Q
What are perpendicular lines?
A
Lines that intersect at a 90 degree angle. They have the negative reciprocal slope of each other.
5
Q
What is slope-intercept form?
A
y = mx + b
- y has to be isolated
6
Q
What is slope-point form?
A
y - y1 = m(x - x1)
7
Q
What is general form?
A
Ax + By + C = 0
- must be equal to 0
- either A or B must exist
- A, B, C are integers
- A has to be positive
