Axis
Earth rotates around an imaginary line called an axis (every 24hrs)
The axis runs from the North Pole to the South Pole
Earth’s rotation around its axis causes day and night
Gravity
The force that pulls objects towards each other
Gravity holds Earth 🌎 in orbit around the sun 🌞
The sun’s gravity holds the Earth-Moon system in place
Orbit
The path that an object takes around another object in space
Earth revolves around the sun. It takes 365 days (1year)
The moon revolves around earth
What causes the seasons?
The tilt of Earth’s axis and its orbit around the sun ☀️ cause the seasons
Hemispheres
Earth is divided into halves
- Northern hemisphere
- Southern hemisphere
Constellation
A star pattern. A group of stars that seem to form a picture in the night sky
