Unit 5 - Lesson 2 Flashcards
Weather
The condition of the atmosphere at a given place and time.
Many factors including air temperature, humidity, and air pressure help us describe the weather
Humidity
The amount of water vapor in the air
Air Pressure
The weight of the atmosphere pressing down on Earth’s surface
Barometer
An instrument used to measure changes in air pressure
Wind
The movement of air
Air moves from areas of higher pressure to areas of lower pressure
Anemometer
Wind Vane
Rain Gauge
Measures wind speed
Measures wind direction
Measures the amount of precipitation
Clouds
Form as water vapor cools and condenses
3 main types of clouds:
Cumulus
Cirrus
Stratus
Cumulus clouds
White and puffy. Common on clear, sunny days
May develop into massive thunderstorm clouds
Cirrus Clouds
Look like white streaks and are high and thin. Made up of ice crystals
Stratus Clouds
Low and gray
Types of Precipitation:
Rain 🌧 Snow ❄️ Freezing Rain Sleet Hail
