Describe a non renewable resource and give an example.
Resource that can only be used once. Example: oil and iron ores
Describe a renewable resource and give an example.
Resources that replaces its self unless badly mismanaged.
Example: trees grow to replace the old ones that have been destroyed or cut down
What’s an ecological footprint ?
Is the measure of the total human impact on an ecosystem and it measures the ecological impact of human’s activities by determining the amount of productive land & water required to support that person
What are the 4 footprint components?
~ carbon footprint ~food footprint ~ housing footprint ~ goods and serivces footprint
What’s a carbon footprint give an example
The area needed to absorb carbon emissions generated by your energy use and transportation
Examples: size and location of your home, energy sources used
Describe a food footprint and give examples.
The area needed to grow crops,fish and gaze animals and absorb carbon emissions from food processing and transport.
Examples: your diet, where you buy your food
What’s a housing foot print ? Give examples.
The area occupied by your home and the area needed to supply resources used in construction.
Example: type of home & materials used in home construction
Describe goods & services footprint. Give examples.
The area needed to supply consumer items you purchase & absorb carbon emissions from manufacturing and transportation & dispoal
Examples: spending and saving habits, filled garbage bins each week
List some ways to reduce our ecological footprint
Take shorter shower Smaller loads of laudry Walk or bike instead of driving Adjust thermostat Eat less meats
What is sustainability ?
It is the approach to development that meets the needs of present without negatively harming the future generation needs
