Unit 5: Schedules Of Reinforcement And Behavioral Contrast Flashcards
Rule which describes or specifies which responses will be followed by reinforcement and which will not
Schedule of Reinforcement
Continuous reinforcement; reinforcement occurs every single time the bx occurs
Used to establish or strengthen bx
CRF
No occurrence of the bx is ever reinforced
Extinction Schedule
Partial schedule
Ratio
Fixed
Interval
Variable
Intermittent schedules of reinforcement
high rate, but post reinforcement pause. All or nothing
Ex. A dime is placed in a jar every 5 dishes josh washes
Fixed Ratio
slow to moderate rates of responding; post pause; then gradual acceleration. Scallop
Ex. Jim gives Kyle praise then leaves. Comes back 5 mins later and provides praise the first time he catches Kyle playing. Repeated
Fixed Interval
produces steady, high rates of responding
Ex. A dime is placed in a jar about every 5 dishes josh washes
Variable Ratio
produces steady, low rates of responding
Ex. Jim gives Kyle praise and leaves. Comes back 5 mins later and provides praise the first time he catches Kyle playing. Repeated excepts comes back in 4 mins.
Variable Interval
Reinforcement is delivered after a certain number of responses.
Produces higher rates of responding over interval schedules
Ratio
First response after a certain amount of time since previous reinforcement
Interval
Number of responses, or amount of time, remains the same.
Pause and burst, unsteady rates of responding
Fixed
Amount of time, or number of responses, is random, but centers around a particular value.
Steady responding, slightly accelerated after reinforcement, then is all or nothing
Variable
A ratio schedule is thinned too quickly
Ratio Strain
Behavior may change in different settings, increase or decrease in one and not the other
Behavioral Contrast
A schedule consists of 2 or more schedules operating simultaneously but independently of each other
Concurrent Schedule
