Q

What is condensation polymerisation?

A

A small molecule (water) is lost as molecules join together

Each monomer has at least two functional groups than react with a different group on a different molecule

Q

Name water soluble polymer and say why it is soluble

A

Poly(ethanol). Formed from ethanol and it contains an OH for hydrogen bonds with water

Q

How are polyamides formed?

A

Dicarboxylic acids react with amino groups of diamines to give amide links (-CONH-)
Water is formed in the process.

Q

What are some of the physical properties of polyamides?

A

Very high tensile strength

Can be used at high temperatures and are resistant to most chemicals.

Q

How do proteins form?

A

A condensation reaction between two amino acids.
