K. old age pension act of 1908. Provided over 70s with 5 shillings a week.
K. Joseph Rowntree felt it was necessary to help the old. As when poor and old nothing can be done.
A. This was important because by 1941 1 million receiving a pension. Kept the old above the poor line and made it capable of them living.
A+. This was limited because not many lived long enough to receive a pension. Had to live in the UK for 20 years prior to 70.

K. national insurance act 1911 created a scheme for health insurance when out of work.
K. DLG inspired by Germany and though the UK should also get free health care.
A. this was important because it provided worker under £160 a year health insurance. Meant ill workers would not fall into poverty.
A+. this was limited because insurance cover cost stopped

A

K. workmen compensation act 1906 compensation and coverage for injuries from the workplace.
K. The coal mines regulation act 1908 set the maximum working hours in a day to be 8 hours.
A. This was important because workmen compensation act covered 6 million workers. Made sure they didn’t fall into poverty. It changed the working environment of the mines and reduced the amount of deaths in coal mines.
A+. This was limited because many cases were to expensive to bring to court if you didn’t have a trade unions support.

K. national insurance act part 2 1911 covered unemployment in some industries especially building, construction and ship building.
K. Insured workers would receive 7 shillings a week for 15 weeks helping them stay out of poverty.
A. this was important because it meant that these trades could not opt out protected workers.
A+. This was limited because unemployment insurance only covered 2.25 million workers and required contributions from workers, employees and the government.
