Q

Name 2 knowledge points and a A/A+ for suffragettes

A

K.1903 the women’s social and political union was formed. Founded by Emmeline Pankhurst.
K. The WSPU sold 20,000 newspapers a week. Talked about progress in suffrage.
A. This was important because the violent actions meant women’s vote was regularly discussed in newspapers and in parliament which caused pressure on the government. The newspapers got people to see women’s vote daily.
A+. This was limited because the violence made women seem underserving for the vote. This undermined the suffragists campaign.

Q

Name 2 knowledge points and A/A+ points for suffragists

A

K. Organised suffrage campaigns began in 1800s
k. 1870-1884 debates on women’s vote took place every year in parliament
A. This was important because the government are the people who decide if women get the vote or not. The campaigns helped to get more people involved which would help to change peoples ideas on women. The suffragists also had an alliance with the labour party which would help to get some women the vote.
A+. This was limited because many women’s suffrage groups had been campaigning since the 1800s. However they failed to get support suggesting they were not effective.
