2/4 Time Signature
A time signature indicating that there are two beats per
measure, with a quarter note receiving one beat.
Staccato
A musical articulation indicating that notes should be played with a short, detached sound.
Flat
A symbol indicating that a note should be lowered by a half step in pitch.
Half step
The smallest interval in Western music, representing the distance between two adjacent keys on a piano keyboard.
Whole step
An interval in Western music equal to two half steps or the
distance of two adjacent keys with one key in between on a piano keyboard.
Tetrachord
A series of four consecutive notes within a scale.
Major scale
A diatonic scale consisting of seven notes and an eighth note that duplicates the first an octave higher, characterized by a specific pattern of whole and half steps.
Fortissimo
A dynamic marking indicating that a passage of music should be played very loudly.
Blues progression
A chord progression commonly used in blues music, typically consisting of three chords played in a specific order.
Natural
A symbol used in music notation to cancel a previous sharp or flat and return a note to its natural pitch.
Key signature: key of C & G major
The set of sharp or flat symbols placed at the beginning of a staff indicating the key in which the music is written, for C major there are no sharps or flats, and for G major, there is one sharp (F#).
Syncopated notes
Notes that are accented or emphasized on off-beats or
weak beats, creating rhythmic interest and often a feeling of anticipation
