Appointed representatives of the Roman Republic. They were advisors to the leaders of Rome
Senators
The power to reject a law or resolution. The power to stop an official action.
Veto
Adecline in purchasing power of a cureency over time. A rise in prices that means your money buys “less” than it used to.
Inflation
Exchanging goods or services with another, instead of using money
Barter
Powerful upper class citizens of Ancient Rome. The aristocrats/ruling class families
Patricians
All free Roman citizens who are not a part of the Patricians or ruling class.
Plebians
The highest elected officials of the Roman Republic
Consuls
Roman officials chosen by the Plebians to represent their interests in government.
Tribunes
The main force of the Roman Army. They were heavily armed, well-trained and disciplined.
Legion
A professional soldier in the Roman Legion.
Legionaries
A Roman official responsible for collecting taxes, building and maintaining public buildings, and supplying armies overseas
Publicans
A large Roman farm that often used peasants and slave labor to run it
Latifundias
Elite Roman soldiers who served as bodyguards or personal security for government officials
Praetorian Guard
A tax placed on items imported into a country to make that item less competitive to similar items made in the country
Tariff
Population count of every Roman citizen. Every 5 yrs, citizens were required to return to their home city to be counted.
