Sometimes when data is transmitted from one location to another it may not arrive due to network problems.

Checking that data has been copied from one medium to another, accurately. E.g. - double entry, proof reading and sending back print-outs.

Data validation

Checking the data entered is reasonable, sensible and complete. E.g. - the six checks: range check, presence check, format check, data type, fixed value/drop-down, and check digit.

Processing errors

These occur after the data has been inputted. For calculated fields that depend on inputs, an incorrect formula will produce the wrong answer every time.
