Unconscious bias:

- can produce discriminatory actions, like an officer being likely to perceive clear and present danger with an AA male

- trained in effect of unconscious bias = info and skill they need to reduce and manage their bias
Remedies: increased focus on officer stress management and health
High profile fatal encounters between police and AA:
- 93% more concerned about their safety
- can affect physical Health and hinder relationships with public
Lack of confidence remedies:
-from and maintained by the fair exercise of authority on part of police when they deal with public= procedural justice

Procedural justice training
- Respectfulness: dignity. Not being embarrassed or humiliated by officer
- neutrality: treated fairly. Not based on race, gender etc.
- Voice: speak or tell ur side of story. Be heard before police take action.
- Trustworthiness: people want to interact with officers who seem concerned about their needs and taken seriously
