Unit 4 Math Flashcards
Absolute Value
The distance of a number from zero to a number line. Always positive.
Algebraic Expression
A combination of variables, numbers, and at least one operation.
Base
The number that is raised to a power.
Coefficient
The number by witch a variable is multiplied.
Example- the 2 in 2x
Coordinate Plane
This is formed when two number lines intersect at their zero points.
Distributive Property
a (b+c)=ab+ac
Exponent
The number that tells how many factors there are of the base.
Greater Than
The inequality symbol >
Inequality
A mathematical sentence that compares two unequal expressions using one of the symbols- ,a less than sign with a line under it, and a greater than sign with a line under it, and an equal sign with a slash through it.
Integers
Positive numbers, negative numbers, and zero.
Less Than
The inequality symbol
Like Terms
Terms containing the same variable.
Negative Numbers
Numbers with a value less than zero.
Operations
Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.
Opposite Numbers
Numbers that have the same digit, but opposite values.
Example- 3 -3
Ordered Pair
This is used to name a point on a coordinate plane.
Origin
The intersection of the x-axis and y-axis.
Positive Numbers
Numbers with a value larger than zero.
Powers
Numbers expressed using a base and exponent.
Quadrants
The four regions separated by the x-axis and the y-axis within a coordinate plane.
Veritable
A symbol usually a letter used to represent a number.
X-Axis
The horizontal number line in the coordinate plane.
X-Coordinate
The first number in the ordered pair.
Y-Axis
The vertical number line in the coordinate plane.
Y-Coordinate
Th second number of the ordered pair.
