Final Flashcards
Wave
A disturbance that travels energy from one place to another without requiring matter to move the entire distance.
Medium
Is the substance through witch a wave moves.
Mechanical Wave
A wave such as sound or seismic wave that transfers kinetic energy through matter.
Transverse Wave
A wave in which a disturbance moves at right angles to the direction of the wave.
Longitudinal Wave
A wave in which a disturbance moves in the same direction as the wave.
Crest
The highest point of the wave.
Trough
The lowest point of the wave.
Wave Length
The distance from one wave crest to the other.
Frequency
Is the number of wave that pass by in a certain period of time.
Electromagnetic Spectrum
The range of all electromagnetic frequencies.
Transmission
Is the number of waves that pass through a medium.
Absorption
Is the disappearance of a wave into a medium.
Observation
The act of nothing and recording an effect an event, characteristics, or anything that is detected.
Investigation
The press of collecting evidence.
Hypothesis
A tentative explanation for an observation or phenomenon, an if then statement.
Conclusion
Is the end of the scientific experiment.
Experiment
Is a test, trial, or tentative procedure, an act or operation for the purpose of discovering something unknown.
Problem
Is the question that you are trying to find the answer to.
Solution
The answer to a scientific problem or investigation.
Biotic Factor
Anything that was alive, or once was alive.
Abiotic Factor
Is something that isn’t alive and never will be.
Species
Any living organism that is so similar that it can breed and produce offspring that can produce offspring.
Population
The number of a particular species living in a particular area.
Community
All of the different populations living in a particular area.
Variable
The part of an experiment that may change or vary.
Control
The thing in an experiment that does not change.
Symbiosis
The interaction between two different species that live closely together.
