UNIT 4 LESSON 1 Flashcards
What is a model?
A model is a system that mimics a real situation/thing. It consists of rules and variables.
What is a rule?
A rule (also known as a formula) is a mathematical equation.
What are variables?
Variables are inputs to the model, i.e. Data, that can be altered to see changes in the output
What is Data?
Data is the raw facts and figures entered into a computer.
What are functions?
They are predefined and prebuilt tasks.
State a few examples of a model
Flight simulator, computer game, model predicting weather, etc.
What is the Cell Reference or Address?
It is the address or location of a cell in a spreadsheet. It is represented by the letter first and then the number, like A1
Why bother with models? Give any five reasons to why they are important.
Models are
Cheaper to test
Can be slowed down to see what’s happening
Crashes can be analyzed
They can be created using software
Can be reused with different data
Better for training
Results can be predicted using different input(s)
How can you check a model?
You can check a model by inputting the variables from a real situation and comparing the results with the actual results of the situation. The more accurate the model is, the better.
What is test data?
Test data is the data entered into a model to test the way it behaves. It can also be used to check the rules/formulae are working as expected.
