Unit 4 Learning Flashcards
Learning that occurs when voluntary actions become associated w their consequences.
Operant Conditioning
Any consequence that increases behavior.
Reinforcement
Any consequence that decreases a behavior.
Punishment
Completely controlled environment used to study the effectiveness of patterns of reinforcement.
Skinner Box
Organism shows new behavior.
Acquisition
From of conditioning that leads subjects to perform a complex or desired behavior by reinforcing successive approximations of a desired response or behavior.
Shaping
Gradual weakening and disappearance of a response bc it is no longer followed by reinforcement.
Extinction
Organism continues to make a response after delivery of the reinforcer for it has been terminated.
Resistance to Extinction
Reinforcing a behavior each time the behavior is shown.
Continuous Reinforcement
Reinforcing behavior occasionally.
Intermittent Reinforcement
The reinforcer is given after a fixed number of nonreinforced responses.
Fixed-Ratio Schedule
The reinforcer is given for the first response that occurs after a fixed interval has elapsed.
Variable-Ratio Schedule
The reinforcer is given for the first response after a fixed amount of time has elapsed.
Fixed-Interval Schedule
The reinforcer is given for the first response after a variable amount of time has elapsed.
Variable-Interval Schedule
Increasing a response by adding a pleasurable consequence.
Positive Reinforcement
