Its about expanding peoples choices and enhancing capabilities. Having access to knowledge, health and a decent standard of living and participating in their community and decisions affecting their lives.
Bilateral aid
Aid is given by one country directly to another. e.g. aus - east timor
Emergency aid
Rapid assistance given to people or countries in immediate distress to relieve suffering, during or after a man- made emergency such as natural disaster. It can also be called humanitarian aid.
Multilateral aid
Aid provided through an international organisation, such as work bank, united nations or WHO. Combines donations from a number of countries and then distributes them to the recipients.
NGO
specific programs, volunteering and development that focus on communities.

Role of the United Nations
bring all nations of the world together for peace and development. organisations within are: WHO, UN human rights council and world bank.
UN areas of action
promoting world peace and security: the security council’s main focus is to maintain international world peace and security. they explore was in which conflict can be resolved and aim for the most peaceful solution.
providing humanitarian assistance: provides necessary aid such as food, water and shelter
promoting social and economical development: UN development program implements policies, programs and strategies that aim to improve economic and social conditions.
promoting human rights: promoting and protection of human rights and address situations of human rights violation and making recommendations. They ensuring human right are upheld, the council assists by providing expertise and technical training in areas of justice, legal reform and electoral processes.
safe water and sanitation program
a safe future, to allow clean water and sanitation to be accessed in Laos.
implementing: communal taps for safe water, household having their own toilet. help to dig trenches for pipes to allow for clean water and sanitation.
evaluation: Laos red cross, with the support of Australian red cross has help to improve the village of Niiu as this program is appropriate to the community as it meets their needs for clean water and sanitation.
