What is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
After World War ll, Because countries were very scared of what could happen in the future many different came and formed the united nations. The United Nations then made the universal declaration of human rights which are 30 laws that every human in the world is given.
tip: although “everyone” has these rights there is still slavery which is against the rules of the universal declaration f human rights showing we still have steps to take to make a perfect world.
Who is the United Nations?
After world war ll many countries were fearful of what is to come in the future they decided to band together and made the united nations. They originally had only 51 countries in the united nations.
tip: the united nations help the relations between countries to keep the peace between countries, this helps with economic, humanitarian, and many other problems.
What is the pyramid of hate?
The pyramid of hate are different from bad things committed by people and on the pyramid of hate the least worse deeds are at the bottom and the worst crimes are at the top, the bottom might have race-driven jokes while the top may include genocide.
Tip: the smaller levels like race-driven jokes will inevitably support the top worst things such as genocide.
What was the Indian removal act?
When white settlers tried to force the Native Americans off their land and into current-day Oklahoma.
tip: this was actually a law and was enforced by president Andrew Jackson even though it was not constitutional.
Who was Andrew Jackson?
Andrew Jackson was the 8th president who said he would force the Native Americans off their land and he was elected because of it.
tip: even after Andrew Jackson lost the court case on whether or not he could force native Americans off their land, he did not listen to the court and forced the native Americans off their land even though it was unconstitutional.
What was the Trail of Tears?
The trail of tears was a journey Native Americans took to get to their designated area to live.
tip: Even the supposed “non-savages” like the Cherokees were forced off their land and the death rate of the trail of tiers was a staggering amount of 2500-6000 deaths.
What is discrimination?
An unjust treatment of someone based on their race.
Tip: This is often mistaught of as prejudice which is a preconceived idea about a group of people without any concrete evidence.
What is Prejudice?
A preconceived idea about a group of people without any concrete evidence.
Tip: This is often mistaught of as bias but bias is not prejudice because unlike just thinking and having a bad attitude about a group of people bias is when someone is willing to act on that idea.
What were the Japanese interment Camps?
Japanese internment Camps were places America jailed people of Japanese ancestry because Japan bombed America, they did this because they feared there may still be Japanese people who have loyalty towards their country.
tip: 2 of every 3 people that were put in the Japanese interment camps that had Japanese ancestry were not originally born in japan meaning it would have been impossible for they could be loyal to their country.
Who was Franklin Delano Roosevelt?
Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the president who signed the law that would put almost all people of Japanese ancestry in internment camps.
tip: Franklin Delano Roosevelt is usually seen as a great president but this shows that he made bad decisions.
What was the attack on pearl harbor?
The attack on pearl harbor was an attack made by the Japanese that lead America into the world war.
tip: after just 2 1/2 hours Japan declared war on America before America could declare war. They also did this in 1941.
What is bias?
Bias is when someone with prejudice is willing to act upon their prejudice whether that be to refuse the person who they have a prejudice against.
tip: this is often mixed with prejudice which is just a preconceived idea rather than the willingness to act upon the ideas.
What was Apartheid?
Apartheid was a set of 148 laws that are restrictive and segregationist laws that are focused on the black minority.
tip: these laws were created in 1948 and were brought down by a combined power of president F.W. de kler and ex-ANC leader Mandel nelson.
What is Segregation?
Segregation in my own words is the act of separating two different things.
tip: this is mainly thought of as separating two different races and giving one of them better rights than the other.
Who was Nelson Mandela?
Nelson Mandela was an ex-ANC leader who was arrested after the ANC was considered illegal but after president F.W. de Klerk got him out of jail he helped the president get rid of apartheid.
tip: he shared the noble peace prize with the president at the time F.W. de klerk for bringing the country to a non-racial democracy.
Who was F.W. de klerk?
F.W. de klerk was president of South Africa and got rid of apartheid after making ANC legal he got Mandel nelson out of jail and with his help he got rid of apartheid.
tip: in 1993 F.W de klerk shared the noble peace price for peacefully bringing the country to a non-racial democracy.
What was the African National Congress?
The African National Congress or ANC as most people call it had the goal of making South Africa fairer for native peoples.
tip: The ANC was made illegal and many of their leaders were arrested.
