What is Censorship?

A

The practice of suppressing and limiting access to
materials considered obscene, offensive or a
threat to security. For example in WW2 censorship was used to keep the morale of people high.

A

Acts of treating groups of people, or individuals differently, based on prejudice. For example, sexual harassment is a form of discrimination.

A

what most people consider correct or reasonable. For example, the KKK is an extremist group.

A

The basic entitlements of all human beings,
afforded to them simply because they are human.
An example of human rights as stated in the
Declaration of human rights is that all people
should receive an education

What is Personal Conviction?

A

Something a person strongly feels or believes in. For example, a personal conviction is that all rapists should be locked away for life.

What is Prejudice?

A

Pre-judging; judging people to be inferior or superior without cause. An example of prejudice is someone thinking poorly of another person for his belonging to a certain race

What is Relative Poverty?

A

A standard of poverty measured in relation to the
standards of a society in which a person lives. For
example, living on less than x percent of average
UK income.

What is Absolute Poverty?

A

An acute state of deprivation, whereby a person
cannot access the most basic of their human needs. An example of absolute poverty includes a 12-year-old boy who has never been to see a doctor or attended school

A

Promoting a fair society by challenging injustice
and valuing diversity. Ensuring that everyone has

  • Set up in 1960 by Peter Benenson
  • They work worldwide to protect and fight for men, women, and children whose basic human rights are denied.
  • They use non-violent methods to raise awareness ie writing letters, creating posters, peaceful protests
  • In 1977 Amnesty International was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize

Lazarus was a poor man who always went to the rich man’s house hoping to get food. After they both died Lazarus went to heaven at Abraham’s side and the rich man went to hell as he never helped Lazarus. He begged for mercy but it was too late. Therefore, this story teaches that Christians should try to help those in poverty by giving charity.
