What does Christianity teach about equality?
Christianity teaches that all people are equal, regardless of sex, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, class or disability.
Why do Christians believe that everyone’s equal?
- God created the human race
- We are made in the image of God
- God plays a part in the creation of each individual
- God loves each person and accepts them as they are
Galatians 3:28

Name 2 examples of Christians who have fought against secular authorities to establish equality in the face of injustice
- Martin Luther King in the USA
- Trevor Huddleston in South Africa against racial inequality
Examples of inequality in the Bible
- ‘Women should remain silent in the churches.’
- ‘for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.’

Does the COE allow women to be ordained?
After many years of debate, the COE now allows women to be ordained as priests and bishops.
Does the RC Church allow women to be ordained?
The RC Church teach that it’s against the will of God for women to have leadership roles in the Church.
What does the Equal Act of 2010 require?
Equal treatment of men and women in access to employment. Priests, monks, nuns and ministers of religion, are exempt from the provisions of the Act.
What does the Marriage Act 2013 say about same-sex marriage?
- The marriage of same-sex couples are lawful in England and Wales in civil ceremonies
- Christian Churches are generally opposed to the religious marriage of people of the same sex
- The Act ensures that no religious organisation can be made to allow same-sex marriages to happens on their premises
