A

A

Teeth are used to bite off pieces of food. They chop, crunch, grind the food in smaller pieces.

A

What are liquid skeletons?

A

Worms have liquid skeletons. Liquid is trapped in spaces inside the body. The muscle squeezes against the liquid and keeps the firm. B squeezing against different parts of its body the worm can change its shape and move.

What are exoskeletons

A

This is where the skeletons on the outside. Hollow tubes form the limbs with gaps between them that form the joints. Many animals have these, belong to the phylum arthropods. The skeleton is often made of the substance called chitin.

What does the exoskeleton provide

A

Protection, but it can be very heavy. Has to be shed, as animal grows. Has no protection afterwards, until another one has grown. Body has no support.

What is endoskeleton

A

This is where the skeleton is inside the body. Usually made of bone and cartilage, rather than chitin. All vertebrates have endoskeleton and the backbone is made of small bones called vertebrae.

What does vertebrates have

A

Have rib cage to protect lungs and heart. Skull, to protect brain and limbs joined to the body by limb girdles. (the shoulders- pectoral girdle and the hips, pelvic girdle) which allows movement.
