Unit 3: Louis Pasteur Flashcards
What did Louis find
The study of microbes called microbiology
When was Louis Pasteur around?
1822-1895
Who 1st saw microbes
Dutch scientist Antoni Van Leevwenhoek in 1675
What is the spontaneous generation
What people thought microbes were. They thought that food and drink that they were found in created them.
What was the brewer that helped Louis called
Bigo
What did Louis and bigo do
Bigo asked Louis to help work out why wine went off sometimes when fermenting
What did Louis discover about fermentation
I was caused by microbes and wine went off off other sorts of microbes got into it a the same time.
What did Louis find out about wine?
Microbes That made wine to off came from the air. Demonstrates with broth.
What flasks are used for the demonstrating with broth?
Swan neck and strait tube.
What is the broth experiment?
Out broth in 2 jars. boiled the broth. Swan neck and straight. Left to sit in laboratory.
Why did the swan neck broth not go off?
Swan neck microbes got suck, as they can only fall downwards. They got stuck and didn’t reach the broth.
What is the broth experiment now called?
The Theory Of Spontaneous Generation.
What did Louis invent to stop the theory of spontaneous generation working?
Created pasteurisation - Pasteur.
What other Kerry did Louis come up with?
The germ theory which is correct.
