Maintains worldwide peace and security; Develops relations among nations; Originally 51 countries, now 193; Provides a forum for bringing countries together to meet the UN’s purposes and goals; Fostering cooperation between nations in order to solve economic, social, cultural, humanitarian, international problems;

It goes from 1. Biased Attitudes, negative thoughts/ideas against certain groups; 2. Acts of Biased, Treating one person/group better/worse than another, 3. Discrimination, Unfair treatment to person/group based on identity; 4. Bias Motivated Violence, Physical/emotional act that causes harm; 5, Which is the worst, The act/intent to murder an entire group based on identity/genocide;
Indian Removal Act
Native American’s from East are forced to move West of the Mississippi River; Native American’s went to court, won, but Andrew Jackson still made them move; Moved the 5 Civilized Tribes;

7th President; 1829-1837; Enabled Indian Removal Act even though it was overruled by the Supreme Court;
Trail of Tears
Indian Removal Act; Removed 5 Civilized Tribes and more; 100k forced to leave 15k died; Forced west of Mississippi; 1600-1800; Occurred because, tribes sided with British, to get land, discovery of gold in Georgia; 1830 enforced by Andrew Jackson;
Discrimination
Unfair treatment to person or group based on identity; A negative behavior toward member of out-group;
Prejudice
drawing negative conclusions about a person, group of people, or situation prior to evaluating the evidence; Prejudice=Attitude;
Bias
Treating one group/person, better/worse than another;
Stereotypes
A belief, positive/negative; About the characteristics of member of group that is applied generally to most member of the group;
Apartheid
Def. System of racial segregation that governed South Africa for soy; 148 Apartheid Laws; Introduced 1948; Ended 1994:

Nelson Mandela
First Black president of South Africa; Anti-Apartheid; Born Rolihlahla Mandela on July 18, 1918 in Mvezo; Descendant of of royals; 1944 joined ANC; Captured 1962 released 1990; 1994 Gained presidency;

In 1989 elected president and dismantled apartheid; Released Nelson Mandela and ANC ban; Worked with Mandela to end Apartheid; 1993 Received Nobel Peace Prize with Nelson Mandela; 1994 Officially ended Apartheid;

Identification with one’s own nation and support for it’s interest, especially to the exlusion of detriment of the interests of other nations;

A document signed between Germany and the allied powers following WW1 that officially ended WW1;
