Significance - Understanding the genetic disorders is important in learning more about promoting good health and preventing sicknesses

Not being able to conceive after 1 year or longer of unprotected sex
Significance- This has lead negative social impacts on the lives of infertile couples especially women
Custodial grandparents
They are providing primary care and have legal responsibility for a child
Joint custody
Legal custody of a child or children that is shared by both parents after divorce or separation
Significance - helps children adjust to their post-separation lives through regular physical access and the knowledge that both parents are participating in major decision-making.
Family Lineage
a group of people who are related to each other as the direct descendants of a particular ancestor
Significance - help a person connect more deeply with a sense of self by learning about their family’s past
Infant mortality rate
A number if children in a country in a given year who die before their first birthday
Significance - The rate at which babies die is an important marker of the overall health of a society
Sterilization
Surgery to ensure permanent infertility
Stress
a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation.
Significance - A little bit of stress is good and can help us perform daily activities. Too much stress can cause physical and mental health problems
persistent poverty
Long term poverty of families usually headed by a female single parent
Female infanticide
the deliberate killing of newborn female children
Significance - having fewer women meant having a lower rate of reproduction
predispositions
When parents have a much greater risk than normal of developing a genetic disease in later life
Significance - you tend to behave like that because of the kind of person that you are or the attitudes that you have
permissive parenting
a type of parenting style characterized by low demands with high responsiveness
Universal daycare
Licenced day care that should be available and accessible for all families
Significance - better able to reach disadvantaged children and are associated with lower levels of child poverty
