What is the patriot cause?
those who wanted to gain independence from Britain, opposed British control
Who were the Loyalists/tories?
those who were still loyal to the crown, opposed independence
What is a war of attrition?
a prolonged war in hopes of wearing the other out through a series of small-scale actions
How were the blacks included in the war?
they could join the army for independence
What and when was the battle of yorktown?
1781, the British surrendered and the USA was born
What and when was the Battle of Saratoga?
1777, turning point in the revolutionary war, the British joined the french after this war because they saw the colonists could win and that it was a chance to weaken Britain
Along with the French who also joined the Americans?
Spain and Holland
How did the revolutionary war end?
with the treaty/peace of paris of 1783, recognized America as an independent nation
What and when was Lexington and Concord?
1775 the British marched into lexington and concord in order to find hidden weapons, the colonists were hiding in the woods and once the British came into the woods the colonists started shooting at then; this was the start of the Revolutionary war
What and when was the Battle at Bunker Hill?
1775 where the British and the colonists faced head to toe for the first time, even though the colonists lost they took it as moral victory because they actually faced the british
What is republican motherhood?
that daughters and mothers should be taught the ideas of republicanism so that they could teach and pass it onto further generations
What was the significance with the cotton gin?
by Eli Whitney in 1793 it made the amount of time it took to separate cotton seeds from the fiber, it increased the amount of slaves to operate the gins
