1774 where delegates from 12/13 colonies met to discuss Americas future; they made a compact among the colonies to boycott British goods unless parliament rescinds the intolerable acts

in 1775 congress emphasized their loyalty to the crown but the lack of their rights as citizens
How did King George III respond to the olive branch petition?
he rejected the idea and declares the colonies to be in open rebellion; he made the prohibitory act
What was the Prohibitory Act of _?
in 1775 when King George removed the colonies from the protection of the crown, banned trade with them, and was allowing seizing of American ships at sea
What were John Locke’s enlightenment ideals?
natural rights, consent of the governed, and self-rule

the social contract: agreement between the people and the government about what each side provides to the other

george washington was made commander of the continental army, they developed a new government and raised an army with the signing of the Declaration of Independence
What was the Declaration of independence?
principles of our government and our identity as Americans; written by Benjamin Franklin and other delegates, also signed by them on July 4, 1776

belief in a creator who does not intervene with the universe
What is rationalism?
opinions and actions based on reason and knowledge rather than religious faith and belief
