Q

Globalisation has led to the growth of global systems, define 3 important ways it has done this.

A

In the past, trade between distant countries was less common, but today, thanks to container shipping, refrigeration, and communication networks, food and drink in the UK is regularly sourced from countries like South Africa and New Zealand. In the past, people experienced limited globalisation, with most food eaten in the UK being locally produced. Today, most of what we consume has traveled around the world. Faster connectivity has increased, allowing real-time communication with people on the other side of the world using social media, compared to weeks for a letter to travel from London to New York.

In the late 1800s, seafloor cables connected the UK and USA, allowing real-time connectivity. Britain used steam-ship technology for migration, and railway networks were built, including the Trans-Siberian railway. Boeing 747s and easyJet introduced low-cost flights, aiding migration within the EU. Today, there are more aircraft than people on the planet.
