League of Nations
Established by treaty of Versailles, made up of many countries under collective security

Case that challenged what women were under the BNA act.
Chanak affair
War scare between Britain and turkey that happened in 1922. Britain asked Canada to help them in war but Canada refused. Said it was their own country and their own choice
Halibut treaty
Treaty about halibut between Canada and America, Canada insisted it could sign treaty without Britain
King-Byng affair
King asked Byng to hold an election but Byng refused. King called it undemocratic for an official appointed by Britain to refuse to take advice of PM
Statue of Westminister
The recommendations of the Balfour report became law in 1931. Made all British commonwealth countries independent
Winnipeg general strike
May 1919, thirty thousand people went on strike in Winnipeg
One big Union
In March 1919 union leaders formed the OBU, represented all Canadians in one big Union
On to Ottawa trek
In 1935 more than a thousand people in interior of BC went to go complain to Bennett
Prosperity, recession and depression
Prosperity means it’s good. Recession means it’s going down. Depression means it’s bad.
Great Depression
People were buying stocks on credit. In October 1929, aka Black Tuesday the stock market crashed and many people lost everything.
Appeasement
Munich agreement, chamberlain said he had secured peace. Agreement let hitter take over part of Czechoslovakia on the promise he’d cease his aggression.
Nazism and Hitler
Germany was unhappy with results of treaty of Versailles.

Stalin was communist of Soviet Union

Canada’s war policy that put supporting war as priority

Defence of Hong Kong
1941, Canadians were defending against an attack by Japan, overwhelmed by the amount of Japanese troops. Many Canadians were taken as prisoners of war.
Dieppe raid
Was a Canadian raid in August 1942. Was supposed to fall under the darkness of the night but ships were delayed. High ground played a role.
Ortona/Italian campaign
In 1943 Canadian soldiers participated in the allies invasion of Sicily. Advances were slow, on June 4th,1944 they finally took Rome.
D-day
June 6th, 1944 d-day was operation overlord. Sword (UK), Gold (UK), Juno (Can), Utah (US), and Omaha (US).
Liberation of Belgium/Netherlands
In early April 1945 begun attack on Netherlands, surrounded Germans and they won. Canada air dropped food over them
Pearl harbour
On December 7th Japan bombed us’s naval base

First city to have been nuclear bomber, three days later bombed Nagasaki
Battle of Atlantic
1939 to 1945, finished when the war ended. The allies defeated the U-boats in 1943 but battle carried on
Battle of Britain
Hitler’s goal was “operation sea lion” to invade britain. In 1940 German Luftwaffe started a massive bombing campaign, the British used spitfires and hurricanes and beat hitler. In May 1941 he gave up on his plans
Holocaust and final solution
The holocaust was discovered at the end of the war. The final solution was a plan to rid their society of all people were considered undesirable.
