Unit 3 Week 11 Lab (Neurodynamics) Flashcards

1
Q

what is the goal of neurodynamic interventions?

Q

what are the benefits of neural mobilization?

A

facilitation of nerve gliding (#1), reduced nerve adherence, dispersion of noxious fluids, increased neural vascularity, improved axoplasmic flow (nerves ability to transmit impulses)

Q

what are the two techniques and what is the difference?

A

neural tensioning and glides: actively or passively moving one joint in the pattern that increases tension hold for 15 seconds or oscillations for 15-30 sec bouts (glide)
nerve flossing: moving two joints actively or passively. one joint into increased tension and the other into slack

Q

what are the precautions of neural mobilization?

A

monitor response
recognize irritability and first do no harm
screen for active disease affecting nervous system
watch for signs of vascular compromise

Q

what is considered a positive finding of the SLR assessment?

A

<70 degrees reproducing sciatica symptoms, pain radiates below the knee
0-30 degrees may indicate serious pathology or malingering
