What is a Sharp?
Symbol = #, raises a pitch/note by one key to the RIGHT.
What are the Primary Chords in G Major?
G: G B D (G symbol)
D7: F# C D (D7 symbol)
C: G C E (C symbol)
What are Block Chords?
Chords where each note is played simultaneously (at the same time)
What are Broken Chords?
Chords where each note is played individually (one at a time)
What is the Damper Pedal?
Pedal on the right, allows notes to echo when keys are hit.
What does Crescendo mean?
Gradually get louder.
What does Diminuendo mean?
Gradually die away.
What does Decrescendo mean?
Gradually get softer.
What does a Fermata indicate?
Hold the note longer than its written value
What is an Eighth Note?
Rhythm worth ½ of one beat
What does “D.C. al Fine” mean?
“Da capo al fine”, “From the head, to the end”; Go back to the beginning and play until the “fine” symbol.
What are Dotted Quarter notes?
Quarter followed by a dot - Rhythm worth 1 ½ beats (usually followed by a single eighth note).
