Q

what does ADH do for the urinary system

A

inc water reabsoprtion from DCT and collecting ducts - inc # of water pores in cell

If ADH to low = inadequate water reabsorb
= high vol of dilure urine ( low SG) and in drinking to comp for water loss (PU/PD) -> diabetes insipidus

Q

What does aldosterone do for the urinary system?

A

inc Na reabsorb from DCT and collecting ducts, creates osmotic imbalance, draws water back into blood but req ADH to occur

Water intake regulated by thirst center in hypothalamus - responds to BP and water conc in blood

Q

What is renal azotemia

A

problem within kidneys
damages nephrons due to toxins, infections, or inflam
poorly func or destroyed nephrons can’t filter blood - causes toxins to accumulate

Q

Describe postrenal azotemia

A

problem after kidneys
usually due to urethral obstruction due to stones, mucus plugs, blood clots or tumors

if severe, can cause urine to back up into kidneys and damage or destroy nephrons (to cause renal azotemia
