Q

what are the steps of pyruvate oxidation?

enters outer membrane:
enters inner membrane (cristae):
1. decarboxylation:
2. dehydrogenation( redox reaction)
3. Coenzyme

A

enters outer membrane: diffusion
enters inner membrane (cristae): active transport

  1. decarboxylation: CO2 is removed
  2. redox reaction: NAD–> NADH Hydrogen is taken from pyruvate
  3. Coenzyme: CoenzymeA is added product is made (acetyl-CoA)

Q

What is the ratio of pyruvate and NAD to acetyl-CoA an NADH and Hydrogen and CO2

pyruvate : NAD –> acetyle-CoA : NADH : H : CO2

A

pyruvate : NAD –> acetyle-CoA : NADH : H : CO2
