Unit 3 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
Excess acetyl CoA can …?
can be removed and used to synthetize the fatty acids
What is gluconeogenesis?
When glucose levels are low new glucose can be created by this.
What are the three steps of glucogeneogenesis?
Breakdown of proteins; Glucogenic amino acids
Breakdown of lipids
Pyruvate and lactate
What is the reverse of glycolysis?
Gluconeogenesis
Plants are …?
the primary producers because the rest are consumers
Light reactions and calvin cycle happens in…?
Chloroplasts
Chloroplasts are descendant of ?
Free-living cyanobacteria
What is differnent from the chloroplast fromthe other organelle?
The chloroplast have two membrane because of their endosymbiosis wit the cell.
The intermembrane aqueous environment of a plant cell is?
a stroma
In photosynthesize what is synthetizize first?
NADPH
Light reactions?
Photosystem 1 and 2
Dark reaction?
calvin cycle, hatch slack cycle and CAM photosynthesis
What are the three options for an excited electons?
Ground state by emmiting a photon, ground state by being captured by pigment, ground state by transferring to another electron accpetor molecule
Chlorophyll a and B differ by?
Methyl and aldehyde
chlorophyll a strongly absorbs? and does not absorb?
blue and red, and green and yellow
What surround the reaction center?
An antenna complex
What is transported through the photosystem?
high energy electron
By raising an electron in p680 to a higher state you get
P680*
Cyclic electron transport involves only what?
Light absorbtion by photosystem 1, with the energy of proton-motive force and generate ATP. NADPH is not formed during Cyclic!!!
Does cellular respiration happens in plants?
Yes, in all cells countaining no chloroplasts.
G3P is used differently in both? why is that?
G3P is used anabolic by photosynthesis and G3p is used catabolic in respiration.
Enzyme specificity Rubisco?
Rubisco is innefiucient with Co2 because it also can react with o2, therefore when the two are competing the O2 tends to be active more than the co2.
What is photorespiration?
So it is when the rubisco consumes o2 and releases CO2 similar to the cellular respiration
What is the difference between the C4 plants and the CAM plants
So the C4 plants uses the C4 cycle and the calvin cycle at the same time but at different locations but the CAM use it at the same location but at different time.
