Unit 3 - photosynthesis Flashcards
Who is green light?
I am the wavelength that plants reflect
Who is oxygen?
I am produced in the light-dependent reactions and am
the by-product of water being split.
Who is carbon dioxide?
I am used in the Calvin Cycle as a carbon source to make
G3P.
Who is chlorophyll?
I am the structure that contains the thylakoids and the
stroma.
Who is thylakoid?
I am the structure that absorbs light and where the light-
dependent reactions take place
Who is stroma?
I am the space where the Calvin cycle (carbon fixation)
reactions occur
Who is NADPH and ATP?
I am the products of the light dependent reactions
Who is the light dependent
reactions?
I am the reactions that absorb light, split water, send
electrons into the ETC and power ATP synthase to create
ATP and NADPH. I also give off oxygen as a waste
product.
Who is the light independent
reactions?
I am the reactions that DO NOT require light, and take in
carbon dioxide, use ATP and NADPH, and create G3P.
Who is ADP and NADP?
I am the products of the Calvin Cycle and I get recycled in
the light dependent reactions to ATP and NADPH
Who is the gas removed from the
atmosphere in photosynthesis?
I am CO2
Who is the gas released to the
atmosphere in photosynthesis?
I am O2
Who splits water?
I am the light dependent reactions
Who “fixes” carbon?
I am the light independent reactions
Who makes ATP?
I am ATP synthase
which wavelengths does chlorophyll absorb?
Around 450 nm and 675 nm
Which range does chlorophyll reflect?
From around 500nm- 600 nm (which is why leaves are green)
What is the organelle where photosynthesis occurs?
Chlorophyll
The light reactions occur in the ________ and the dark reactions take place in the ________.
thylakoid membrane / stroma
What is the primary function of the light reactions of photosynthesis?
To produce NADPH and ATP
What molecule does the light reactions split to get electrons for the ETC and create a molecule necessary for the Calvin cycle?
H20
What waste product does the light-dependent reactions create?
Oxygen
What is the function of NADPH?
It is an electron carrier
Where does the carbon come from that is used to form glucose?
CO2 in the air
