What is a natural resource?
A resource found in nature.

What is a renewable resource?
A resource that is renewable.

What is a non-renewable resource?
A resource that can only be used once.

What is a flow resource?
A resource that is replaced by natural action weather or not humans use it.

What is a primary industry?
Industries that extract the raw materials from the environment
What is a secondary industry?
Industries that manufacture/process the raw materials
What is the Tertiary industry?
Industries that sell the processed goods
What is the Quaternary industry?
The industry that sells/exchanges information
What are imports and exports?
Imports - When goods or services are brought into the country.
Exports - The sale of products or services to another country
What is GDP (Gross domestic product)
The total value of all goods and services in a country, per person.
What are hydroponics?
A way of farming that doesn’t require soil
What is sustainable yield forest management?
Use of a forests’ resources at a rate that allows the forest to renew itself
What is softwood?
Wood from coniferous (Needle-leaved) trees
What is hardwood?
Wood from broad-leaved trees
What are commercial forests?
The part of a forest that has large enough trees and is close enough to a market to allow it to be harvested by a forest industry.
What is aquaculture?
The production of fish and other marine products on fish farms
What are metallic minerals?
Minerals that we use for beauty and jewellery, such as gold, silver, and platinum.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of technological advancement?
Advantages - We get awesome new technology such as cars, planes, phones, etc.
Disadvantages - Making these things requires resources and power, and can pollute the environment.
What are the 4 factors that contribute to agricultureal success?
Soil
Topography
Biological systems
Climate
Why is agriculture so important to Canadians?
It provides jobs, money, and food to the country
What is intensive farming?
Small farms in an urban area that require lots of labour and supplies in order to yield a crop. They usually don’t make a lot of money because there isn’t enough land to produce high profits.
What is extensive farming?
Farming in rural areas where you can get lots of crops because less labour is required. Even if you make a low amount of crops, you will still make a profit.
What is sustainable forest management and why is it important?
SFM is cutting down trees at a rate where the forest can replenish its losses. It is important because we need to keep Canadas’ forests alive for future generations.
What are some concerns for the fishing industry?
Fish are being over caught. We are losing fish production.
