What is human geography?
The study of the world, its people, communities, culture, etc.
What is physical geography?
The study of features of the Earth (earthquakes, weather, tectonics)
What are the 5 themes of geography?
Location, place, human/environment interaction, movement, and region
What is location?

Location is the location of places!
Bonus answer: Absolute and relative.
What is place?
The human and physical characteristics of a location.
Physical characteristics:
-Land features, mountians, plains, climate, water
Human characteristics:
-People, culture, religion, cities, buildings
What is human/environment interaction?
How humans adapt to and modify the environment.
What is movement?
Movement of people, products, and information (Internet) across the globe.
What is region?
Regions have some sort of characteristic that unifies the area. Regions can be formal, functional, or perceptual.
What is FORMAL region?
Regions that are designated by official boundries.
States, cities, countries
What is FUNCTIONAL region?
Regions defined by their connections. A central place and the surrounding areas are affected by it.
(GTA, drainage basin)
What is PERCEPTUAL region?
Regions that are perceived.
(the south, the middle east)
They have no formal boundaries but are UNDERSTOOD to be there
