Unit 3: Forces and energy Flashcards
1
Q
What are force diagrams?
A
Force diagrams tells us the size and direction of a force (the longer the arrow in the force diagram, the larger the force).
2
Q
What are balanced forces?
A
- Stationary object.
- Constant speed or height.
- Forces of equal size acting in opposite directions.
- Balanced forces cause no change in movement.
- If the arrows are the same length, that means it is balanced forces.
3
Q
What are unbalanced forces?
A
- Forces are not equal size.
- The object changes direction.
- The object moves forward.
- The object slows down.
- If the arrows are not in the same length, that means it is unbalanced forces.
4
Q
What is the standard unit for speed?
A
m/s (metres per second).
5
Q
What is the equation for speed?
A
Speed = distance divided by time.
6
Q
What is the equation for distance?
A
Distance = speed x time.
7
Q
What is the equation for time?
A
Time = distance divided by speed
8
Q
What is the equation for moment?
A
Moment = force x distance.
9
Q
What is the unit of force and distance?
A
The unit of force is newton and the unit of distance is metre.
10
Q
What is the unit of moment?
A
Nm (newton metre).
