HDI
Human Development Index - measure that determines the overall development of a country by incorporating three key dimensions of human development: life expectancy at birth, access to education (expected & mean years of schooling), and standard of living (measured by GNI per capita)

GNI
Gross National Income - total value of goods and services globally produced by a country in a year divided by the country’s population
PPP
Purchasing Power Parity - Measures economic variables in different countries so that exchange rates don’t distort across-the-board comparisons

Measures the economic inequality of a given area
GII
Gender Inequality Index - measure that calculates inequality based on three categories: reproductive health, empowerment, and labor-market participation
GDI
Gender Development Index - measure that calculates gender disparity in the 3 basic dimensions of human development: health, knowledge, and standard of living
Microcredit
A program that provides small loans to poor people, especially women, to encourage development of small businesses
NIC
Newly Industrialized Country - These countries’ economic development is between developing and highly developed
MDC
More Developed Country - These countries have advanced socially and economically.
LDC
Less Developed Country - a country that is at a relatively early stage in the process of economic development.
Female Labor Force Participation
Describes how women play a role in country’s workforce and how it does not directly correlate to a country’s economic development.
