Unit 3- Ciruits Flashcards
What is a parallel circuit
It is a circuit where the current splits, the voltage stays the same and components can turn off and on sepaterly
What is the symbol for a thermistor
It is a box with a line through it
What is a thermistor
Thermistor have a high resistance when they are cold. When they are heated up they have a low resistance, making it easier for current to flow. The increase in temperature increases the number off free electrons available
What is the symbol for a light dependent resistor
It is a box with a circle round it
What is a light dependent resistor
Light dependent resistors have a high resistance in the dark. When light shines on the LDR it has a low resistance. This makes it easier for the current to flow
What is the symbol for Diode
It is a circle with a triangle in it with a line at the tip of the triangle
What is a diode
It is a resistor that only let current flow in one direction- it has a very high resistance in the other direction
What is the symbol for a filament bulb
Circle with an Cross in it
What is a filament bulb
Resistance increases as voltage increase
Electrons gain energy vibrate more and current slows down
Rearrange Q= E/V
V = E/Q E = Q ✖️ V
What does V stand for
Voltage (volts)
What does E stand for
Energy (joules)
What does Q stand for
Charge (coulombs)
What charge is carried if 600J is delivered by a voltage of 12V
V= E/Q
Q= E/V
Q= 600J/ 12V
= 50 coulombs
What is a series circuit
It is a circuit where the current stays the same, the voltage is shared between the components and less wiring heats quicker
Rearrange Q = I ✖️ T
I = Q/T T = Q/I
What does T stand for
Time (second)
What does Q stand for
Charge (coulombs)
What does I stand for
Current (amps)
How much current flows in 60C is delivered for 2 minutes
Q= I ✖️ T
I = Q/T
I = 60C/120S
= 0.5 A
In cold wire …… Vibration of atoms (resistance)
Small
In cold wire electrons pass through …… (Current)
Easily
In hot wire …… Vibration of atoms (resistance)
Large
In hot wire electrons pass through with …… (Current)
Difficulty
What does OHMIC give and an example
A consistent resistance and wire
What does non-OHMIC give and an example
A resistance that changes with voltage and a bulb
In a non- OHMIC graph when it is shallow it has a …….
Low resistance
In a non- OHMIC graph when it is steep it has a …….
High resistance
Rearrange V = I ✖️ R
I = V/R R = V/I
What does V stand for
Voltage (volts)
What does I stand for
Current (amps)
What does R stand for
Resistance (OHMS)
Current=
How many electrons pass through ,
Rate of flow of charge around a circuit
Voltage=
Amount of energy electrons are carrying
Driving force that pushes the current round
Potential difference is equal to…
Voltage
What is series curcuit
It is a circuit where current stays the same,
The voltage is shared between the components and less wiring heats quicker
Name the 3 equations
V = I ✖️ R Q = I ✖️ T E = V ✖️ Q
