A
  • Effectiveness of types of power comes down to the alignment between the use of that type of power and the national interest objective of the state
  • If China successfully achieves Y national interest because of its use of X type of power, it has been effective. If it does not achieve its national interest, or only achieves part of its expressed goal, then questions are asked about its effectiveness
  • Bear in mind that any use of a type of power may achieve more than one national interest or may damage a different national interest (eg. could achieve one thing but be detrimental to another)
